Global Positioning System MediaPLUS
1. Connect the eTrex Legend CX personal navigator to the
computer.
2. If asked to find a driver, click the Close button.
3. Install the Trip and Waypoint manager software that came
with the eTrex Legend CX personal navigator according to the
manufacturer’s directions.
4. After the installation is complete, on the Start menu, point to
Programs.
5. On the submenu, point to Garmin, and then click MapSource.
6. After the program loads, click the Close button to exit
Mapsource.
7. Install the City Navigator software according to the
manufacturer’s directions. Do not unlock the software at this
time.
8. On the Start menu, click My Computer.
9. Double-click C.
10. Double-click Program Files.
11. Double-click DEPCO.
12. Double-click MapSource_Update.exe. (If you do not have that file I have attached it here for download)
13. After the update is complete, unlock the City Navigator
software.


If your students experience problems logging on to MapSource as
a standard user it will be necessary, as the systems administrator, to
change the settings by accessing the Registry Editor. Follow the
instructions below to change the settings.
1. Click the Start menu from your Windows homepage.
2. Click Run and type regedit in the box that appears. Click OK
to open the Registry Editor.
3. Locate the folder labeled HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/
SOFTWARE/GARMIN.
4. Click the small box with the plus sign to expand the folder.
5. Right-click the GARMIN folder and click Permissions.
A. Click the Power User Name and make sure the snap
commands FULL CONTROL and READ have check
marks.
B. Click Apply and then click OK.
6. Right-click the MAPSOURCE folder, located under the
GARMIN folder, and click Permissions.
A. Click the Power User Name and make sure the snap
commands FULL CONTROL and READ have check marks.
B. Click Apply and click OK.
7. Right-click the FAMILIES folder, located under the
MAPSOURCE folder, and click Permissions.
A. Click the Power User Name and make sure the snap
commands FULL CONTROL and READ have check marks.
B. Click Apply and click OK.
8. Right-click the EVERY folder, located under the FAMILIES
folder, and click Permissions.
A. Click the Power User Name and make sure the snap
commands FULL CONTROL and READ have check marks.
B. Click Apply and click OK.
9. Exit the Registry Editor.
Power Users, on this machine, will now be able to run the
MapSource software as long as the System Administrator has placed
no other restrictions.


Setup of the eTrex Legend Cx personal navigator
1. Before the first use allow the GPS unit to find its position.
2. While outside turn the GPS unit on.
3. The receiver will automatically start the process of acquiring
satellite signal to plot its position.
4. Once the unit has acquired satellite signal you are ready to
start using it.
5. Refer to the owner’s manual for any additional questions.
