Robotics Specialist
The Robotics Specialist will report to the Director of Curriculum and Media and will be primarily responsible for the quality development of a mobile robotics curriculum for grades 6-12. The applicant must have a minimum of two years’ experience in a technical area. Experience with Robotics is required. The position resides in Pittsburg, KS and requires approximately 25% travel to accomplish the job tasks below.
Specifically, the individual shall:
- Develop and revise existing Robotics curriculum cognizant of time and budget.
- Collaborate with Director of Curriculum and Media on matters of planning, strategy, and consistency of format.
- Assure that all DEPCO robotics curriculum development and revision will meet the established standards for quality, acknowledging varying student learning needs and styles.
- Work with curriculum team on developing products thru consulting and generating outlines and content for the various development efforts.
- Research, identify, recommend and communicate model exemplary instructional practice in problem-solving and project/problem-based learning.
- Communicate the alignment of DEPCO course objectives to national and state learning standards, for schools and agencies.
- Engage the participation of higher education, business/industry experts and other stakeholders in the review and completion of all robotics curriculum development and revision.
- Troubleshoot and write code to program robots including debugging systems and prototypes for inclusion in all curriculum materials.
- Understand robotics components such as switches, sensors, controllers, motors, etc. and write detailed instructions on how to use/program these components.
- Knowledgeable of CAD (preferably SolidWorks) for R&D purposes as well as curriculum development consultation.
- Work collaboratively with DEPCO team members to synthesize curriculum development and revision into meaningful professional development experiences for teachers.
- Assist in the development of model lessons for virtual availability to DEPCO Robotics instructors via DEPCO Studio.
- Design and develop robotic systems for specific parameters such as competition rules and regulations by selecting proper materials and peripherals.
- Use creative thinking skills and research to propose new concepts for robotic designs and competitions (as well as miscellaneous accessories for competitions).
- Work and negotiate with vendors and internal purchasing regarding specific part needs.
- Work with management on the direction of the DEPCO robotics program.
- Develop and engage partners to design and develop challenges and competitions using the GEARS Robotics platform.
- Train the DEPCO sales team and reseller network on conducting workshops/demonstrations/presentations; answering technical mechanical, systematic, and programming questions; and perform simple repairs on the robots when they make classroom visits.
- Train DEPCO technical support staff on how to conduct workshops/demonstrations/presentations; answering technical mechanical, systematic, and programming questions; troubleshoot robotic systems; and make complex repairs.
- Attend National Robotics Shows and other national meetings as designated to promote the GEARS Product line.
- Other, as directed by the director of Curriculum and Media, and the Vice Presidents and President of the organization.
