Manufacturing is undoubtedly a driving force in the United States’ economy. Increasingly, industries related to manufacturing rely on competent and skilled designers, fabricators, and machine operators. In this curriculum, students learn the basics of the industry-standard Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software Mastercam. While learning how to manipulate the software, students are introduced to concepts such as coordinate positioning, both Cartesian and polar; determining efficiency ratings; the challenge of controlling splines; and the importance of speeds and feeds. This curriculum not only teaches the importance of accurate manufacturing, it challenges students to have fun while they are learning.
