In DEPCO’s Aerodynamics curriculum, students learn about the basic principles of aerodynamics and flight, including how the forces of lift, drag, and thrust interact. Students conduct complex tests on different geometric shapes, airfoils, everyday car shapes, and race car shapes. It is amazing how quickly the students learn how to gather, calculate, and analyze both positive and negative lift readings, air speed, angle of attack, and drag coefficient ratings, including pound-Newton conversions. Finally, students apply what they have learned by designing, building, and testing an aerodynamically correct clay car model.
