In this creative module, students receive real-world experience by acquiring skills and performing tasks that are comparable to those found in the vinyl sign making industry. First, students become familiar with the sign-making software by exploring sample signs and working with basic text and graphics tools. Next, they are introduced to sign layout concepts such as proportion, balance, harmony, and symmetry, and then they apply selected concepts to a variety of sign design projects. Finally, students operate advanced equipment to plot and cut two original vinyl signs, a notebook sign and a two-color bumper sticker.
